In addition, the Curriculum & Instruction Office has issued the following guidance regarding the issuance of N, I, and P marks:
PASS/NO PASS
Teachers may not award a grade of Pass (P) or No Pass (N). If your teachers continue to award a pass or not pass, these grades will be translated as a Pass (P) = C (2.0) and a No Pass (NP) = F (0.0.). It is important to consider the consequences of awarding a grade of "P" for a class. A student with a 4.0 GPA who receives a "P" will actually receive a mark point of "C" and will no longer have a 4.0 GPA. See the Family Handbook for examples of GPA calculation [link].
INCOMPLETE
An Incomplete (I) that is not cleared becomes a grade of F. Teachers that give an incomplete should not award credit for the course. If a teacher gives an Incomplete (l) and awards credit (5.0) then the student will actually have an "F" (0.0) factored into the GPA calculation if the incomplete is not cleared.
HOMEROOM OR ADVISORY MARKS
If your school posts attendance and comments but no letter grades nor credits to Homeroom or Advisory sections on report cards and/or transcripts, do the following so that the marks posted will not impact the students' GPA calculations:
Homeroom or Advisory class sections must be set to “Included in grading” in the Synergy master schedule by the school administrator responsible for the school's mater schedule.
- Homeroom or Advisory class sections must have Credit set to “0.000” in the Synergy master schedule by the school administrator responsible for the school's mater schedule.
- Teachers should submit “N” (No Mark) for Homeroom or Advisory when posting grades.
If the school does post letter grades and credits for Homeroom or Advisory, the class sections’ credits information in the master schedule should be set as appropriate for the credits necessary by the school administrator responsible for the school's mater schedule.
