Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) is an authentication method that requires the user to provide two or more verification factors to gain access to a resource such as an application, online account, or a VPN. MFA is an effective way to increase account protection against common threats like phishing attacks.

No, while the MFA apps for phones work great, they are also available for computers too. Additionally, any phone, such as a landline, office phone, or even a GoToConnect softphone account will work (see below). The system can be set up to text or call.
If you do not have access to any phones, you may use a Desktop authentication app called Authy. This app will emulate an authentication app on your desktop computer. For instructions on how to set up Authy, please click here.

Authenticator apps generate a one-time code that you use to confirm that it's you logging in to a website or service. What if I am locked out because I lost my phone or my normal authentication option is not working?

No problem. Users can log in to their Microsoft account and add other authentication methods, such as another phone number or different authentication app, on the fly.
