Apple has changed their method of managing New iPads for Fall 2014.
The new management system is called DEP or Device Enrollment Program.
SFUSD’s Information Technology Department staff have already completed District enrollment through Apple and all new iPads in the District are enrolled in DEP.
More information on this program can be found on Apple’s website: http://www.apple.com/education/it/dep/
iPads previously managed using Configurator should continue to be managed this way until a conversion can be scheduled moving older iPads into DEP. This conversion is a multi-step process which can take up to six hours per cart of 30 iPads. A Service Request may be submitted to Desktop Support or a PO sent to our support partner Arey Jones for this work. The cost is $28 per iPad.
Service Requests will be fulfilled on a first come first served basis, once school opening tasks have been completed.
SFUSD uses an MDM or Mobile Device Management System from JAMF Software using their Casper Suite. The MDM is described here: http://www.jamfsoftware.com/solutions/education/device-enrollment-program/
For school year 2014-15, all new iPads will be enrolled in Apple’s Device Enrollment Program using our MDM. Primarily, this new program allows the distribution of applications to Devices using JAMF’s Casper software on our District server.
If you have applications to be applied to your new iPads, submit a Service Request to Help@sfusd.edu listing the names of applications you would like to be applied to your devices(provide devices names/asset tag number for each device affected). Requests submitted prior to the 1st of the month will be fulfilled by the 15th of the month.
