What type of devices can be used for the online testing?
Windows, Apple, and Chromebook devices are acceptable and although older devices should function well for this testing, they should be checked for compatibility before testing begins.
For detailed requirements, please download Technical Specifications and Configuration Guide for CAASPP Online Testing.
You may use an iPad 2, iPad 3 4th Generation (Retina Display)
iPad Air and iPad Air 2 with iOS 8.0-8.2, 9.2, 9.3, 10.2 and AIRSecureTest Mobile Secure Browser (2017 is version 3.4) Download the Mobile Secure Browser from the App Store
Note: The iPad Mini is NOT supported.
Are wireless devices acceptable to use?
Wired devices are recommended as they are faster and more reliable than wireless. Only use wireless devices if you are certain there is at least one wireless access point in the Testing Classroom and you test usage by a full class well in advance of the test for response time and accessibility. In some cases, a higher power Access Device may be placed in the hallway.
Submit a Service Request at [email protected] for a consultation regarding your site if you are not sure.
Wireless devices require WIRED keyboards and headphones with volume control.
The functionality of these devices should also be verified with the practice test prior to actual testing.
DoT will provide a limited number of Shared/Loaner devices for Testing which will be collected immediately following the testing. Provide your testing schedule to check if they will be available for your site. Please submit a Service Request at [email protected] to request Shared/Loaner devices.
Are Headphones required?
Headphones may be required. High School students will likely want to bring their own. If you are purchasing Headphones, be sure they have an adjustable volume control as the Secure Browser disables the sound on many devices. For computer adaptive tests (CAT), Headphones are required for the listening portion of the ELA assessment and for students requiring text-to-speech. For Performance tasks,(PT) Headphones are required for some performance tasks and for students requiring text-to-speech.
The Test Administration Manual provides more detail: http://www.caaspp.org/rsc/pdfs/CAASPP.online_tam.2016-17.Chapter-6.pdf
What if we only have one lab to use?
The ratio of one device for every ten students should be sufficient. Prepare a Testing Schedule for each designated test room per AAO guidelines provided to your sites' Test Coordinator. SBAC schedule tool is available on the SBAC Website. If you find you do not have sufficient capacity, submit a Service Request to DoT explaining the need for devices.
What software is required for the Online Testing?
A SECURE WEB BROWSER is required on all test devices. Department of Technology Desktop Support staff and Achievements Assessments Office staff are available for assistance. Most devices managed by the District have the browsers assigned and installed remotely. If your device is managed by the District, submit a Service Request including the room number, location and type of device to request remote installation. Wireless devices require an App which may downloaded for free from the iTunes apps store.
